Questions

Does MenuToDo need an account?

No. Syncing goes through your own iCloud with Apple's CloudKit, so there is nothing to sign up for, no password to keep, and no server of ours in between.

Where are my tasks kept?

On your device, in the app's own sandboxed store. With iCloud sync on they are also in your private iCloud container, which is yours and not readable by us. With it off they never leave the Mac.

Can I use it without iCloud?

Yes. iCloud sync is a switch in Settings. It is on when you install, and turning it off leaves the app working exactly as before with everything stored on that one device.

Which devices does it run on?

Mac on macOS 14 or later, iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later, Apple Watch on watchOS 10, and Apple Vision Pro on visionOS 2.1. There are widgets on the Mac and on the Watch.

Is there a subscription?

No. One payment, no renewals, and no ads. It works on every Apple device signed in to the same account.

Can I get my tasks back out?

Yes. Export the lot as CSV or JSON whenever you like, and import from CSV. Nothing is locked in.

What does it collect about me?

Nothing. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking of any kind in the app. It reaches the network twice: iCloud sync, if you leave it on, and fetching the small site icon for a link you attach to a task.

What happens to a task I did not finish?

It stays on the day you gave it, unless you turn on the setting that moves unfinished tasks from the day before to today. That one is off until you ask for it, so nothing moves behind your back.
