How this is counted
- A visitor is a random id in a cookie, kept for a year. It is not built from your address or anything about your browser, so it cannot follow you anywhere else.
- "Here now" means a page was loaded in the last 5 minutes.
- Crawlers are left out. They do not keep cookies, so counting them would mean the total climbed on its own.
- The visitor total is a floor rather than an exact figure. The catalogue pages are held at the edge for a minute so they arrive without waiting on our database, and a page served from there never reaches us to be counted. Nobody is counted twice; somebody who read a cached page and left may not be counted at all. An app's own page is never cached, which is why the number on a listing is exact.
- The day-by-day chart of visitors is drawn from this site's own database: one bar per day, counting people whose first visit was that day. It does not depend on any analytics service, so it is the one chart here that cannot go blank because someone else's API is down.
- The thirty-day figures come from PostHog, which is also where a developer's own numbers come from on their listing's page.
- The number on each card is views: times that listing was opened, counted on our server when the page renders, so it cannot be blocked or inflated from a browser.
- Clicks out are counted from the browser instead, because the link goes straight to the developer rather than through us. That is worth more to them than an exact number is to us, so the figure undercounts wherever an extension blocks the beacon.
