About Solace

Your Mac's appearance, in tune with the world around you. Solace adapts light and dark mode, your wallpaper, and screen warmth to what's actually happening outside, time of day, solar position, and real-time weather, then stays out of the way in the menu bar.

Features

  • Intelligent Appearance Switching: Light and dark mode follow actual ambient conditions, not just fixed sunrise and sunset times.
  • Solar Scheduling: Sunrise and sunset are calculated from your location, so the schedule shifts on its own as the seasons change.
  • Weather Aware: Built on Apple WeatherKit, a heavily overcast afternoon can bring dark mode early, and a bright day keeps things light.
  • Custom & Dynamic Wallpapers: Pair a light wallpaper with a dark one and Solace swaps them whenever the appearance changes.
  • Evening Warmth: Screen colour temperature warms gradually through the evening, independently of Night Shift.
  • Menu Bar Quiet: Lives in the menu bar with a custom keyboard shortcut. Set it once and forget it exists.
  • Private by Design: No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and location is processed entirely on-device.
  • One-Time Purchase: Buy it once, no subscription.

Why Solace?

macOS gives you a manual appearance toggle and a schedule tied to the clock. Neither knows that it has been overcast since lunchtime. Solace reads the day itself, solar position and live weather, and moves your appearance, wallpaper and screen warmth together.

Pick Your Pair

Choose a wallpaper for light mode and one for dark, so the desktop changes with the appearance.

Choose a Trigger

Switch on solar position, on live weather conditions, or on a schedule you set yourself.

Forget It

Solace sits in the menu bar with a keyboard shortcut and handles the rest on its own.

Questions

What is Solace?

A macOS menu bar app that keeps your Mac's appearance in step with the world outside, switching light and dark mode, swapping wallpapers, and warming the screen based on time of day, solar position, and weather.

How does it decide when to switch?

You choose: a schedule you set, solar position calculated from your location, or live weather conditions. Solar scheduling adjusts on its own as sunrise and sunset move through the year.

What does "weather aware" actually mean?

Solace reads current conditions through Apple WeatherKit. If it's heavily overcast in the middle of the afternoon it can move to dark mode early, rather than waiting for a time on the clock.

Does it change my wallpaper too?

Yes. You assign one wallpaper for light mode and another for dark, and Solace swaps them whenever the appearance changes.

Is the colour temperature just Night Shift?

No, it's Solace's own evening warmth and works independently of Night Shift.

Does it track my location?

Location is processed entirely on-device. The app collects no data, and there are no accounts, analytics, or telemetry.

How much does it cost?

Solace is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Check theodorehq.com for current pricing in your region.
